Job description
We are seeking an E3 Java Engineer with proven experience in service integration design and development within the enterprise middleware domain. In this role, you will contribute to enhancing our member experience by driving technical excellence and promoting best practices across our IT landscape.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
As an E3 Java Engineer within our Strategic Integration Systems team, you will serve as a key technical leader in our Integration Banking domain. Leveraging your strong design and development expertise, you’ll architect and deliver robust solutions that will power our consumer-facing channels well into the future.
You’ll take end-to-end ownership of your platform domain—leading by example through development, deployment, and continuous improvement. Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, project managers, designers and other technical leads, you’ll help align efforts and drive cohesive delivery.
You’re already adept at managing multiple projects, navigating complexity and thriving in collaborative environments. You’ll also play a mentorship role, sharing your knowledge with both in-house and partner teams. Your practical experience and strategic insight will help shape the capabilities of a high-performing technology organization.
In addition, you’ll act as a delegate for the Lead Engineer when needed, representing the Chief Operating Office across the wider organization to ensure our Technology Strategy is executed with speed and precision.
We’ll empower you with the tools and flexibility to work your way, ensure your voice is heard, and support your growth—both technically and commercially. Our clear and proven career pathways reflect our commitment to continuous development, challenging even our most skilled engineers to reach new heights.
